Our Ambitious Curriculum
Curriculum Intent
At Bitterne CE Primary School, our curriculum is the means through which we bring our vision of "Together We Soar..." to life.
Rooted in our Christian values of Hope, Courage and Creativity, we have designed a broad, ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum that enables every child to flourish and achieve their full potential. We want our pupils to develop a deep body of knowledge, a love of learning and the confidence to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.
Through the exploration of the key concepts of Identity, Change, Power, Discovery, Responsibility and Legacy, pupils are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, make connections and understand their place within the world. These concepts provide a coherent thread that runs throughout the curriculum, enabling children to revisit and deepen their understanding as they progress through the school.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that knowledge and skills build progressively over time and meet the full requirements of the National Curriculum. Learning is enriched through high-quality texts, memorable experiences, educational visits, outdoor learning, discussion and opportunities for reflection.
As a school at the heart of Southampton, we want children to understand and value the rich history, diversity and maritime heritage of their local community. Through learning about Southampton, Britain and the wider world, pupils develop a sense of belonging, responsibility and global citizenship.
We are committed to ensuring that all children encounter a diverse range of people, cultures, faiths, perspectives and experiences throughout their learning. Through this, pupils learn to celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes and recognise the dignity and worth of every individual.
Our Christian values provide the lens through which learning is explored:

We want our pupils to understand that their actions matter, that their voices can make a difference and that they have the potential to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
