Our Vision and Values
Our Vision
At Bitterne Church of England Primary School, we are a welcoming and inclusive community where every child is valued as a unique individual, created and loved by God. Guided by our Christian values of Hope, Courage and Creativity, we work together so that all our pupils flourish - confident in who they are, ambitious in what they can become, and fully prepared for the next stage of their learning.
We are proud to be a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of faith, background or belief. We passionately strive for every child to succeed - to learn with curiosity, act with kindness, and live with hope - becoming the very best version of themselves.”
Our Christian Values
Our Christian values of Hope, Courage and Creativity guide our daily life and help shape the way we learn, behave and care for one another. These values are rooted in the Christian faith and are shared in ways that are meaningful and inclusive for all children and families.
Hope inspires us to look to the future with joy, confidence and trust in God’s promises. It encourages us to be kind and compassionate, to believe in ourselves and others, and to remain positive even when things feel challenging.
Through hope, children learn that they are valued, supported and never alone.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.”
Romans 15:13
Bible focus: Daniel and the Lion’s Den
This story helps children understand how trust in God and hope can give strength and reassurance, even in difficult situations.
Courage helps us to face challenges with confidence and resilience, knowing that God is with us in all that we do. It encourages children to try new things, stand up for what is right and grow in faith and self-belief.
At Bitterne, courage means being brave enough to learn, to make mistakes and to support others.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Bible focus: David and Goliath
This story shows children that courage is not about being the biggest or strongest, but about trust, determination and believing in what is right.
Creativity allows us to explore, imagine and express ourselves as children made in God’s image. We encourage creativity in many forms: through learning, problem-solving, the arts and imaginative play, helping children discover their unique talents and gifts.
Creativity reminds us that everyone has something special to offer.
“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”
Ephesians 2:10
Bible focus: The Creation Story
This story helps children reflect on God as Creator and encourages them to value the world around them and their own creativity.
Through Hope, Courage and Creativity, we support our children to flourish: learning with curiosity, acting with kindness and growing into confident, compassionate individuals who are ready for the next stage of their journey.
School of Sanctuary
We are proud to be recognised as a School of Sanctuary. This reflects our commitment to being a place where everyone is welcomed, valued and supported, and where children and families feel safe and able to belong.
As a School of Sanctuary, we seek to live out our Christian values of Hope, Courage and Creativity by fostering a culture of kindness, compassion and understanding. We recognise that members of our school community may come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and we celebrate the diversity this brings to our school.
Through learning, discussion and shared experiences, we help children to develop empathy, respect for others and an understanding of the wider world. We encourage pupils to be thoughtful, caring and curious, supporting them to build positive relationships and a strong sense of community.
We are committed to removing barriers to learning and wellbeing wherever possible. Through inclusive practice, tailored support and a strong focus on care and belonging, we work to ensure that every child is able to flourish.
Together, we continue to build a nurturing and supportive school community, where everyone is encouraged to grow, learn and succeed, knowing they are valued and welcomed at Bitterne.
